Formed virtually by accident for only a handful of special performances, DIM=SUM began in an gutted basement with a mutual love of gloomy movie soundtracks & exploratory artists such as Television, Dinosaur Jr., Talk Talk, Van Morrison, Pink Floyd, Richard Thompson & the Doors. Within 6 months they impulsively recorded a double album and toured the UK to coincide with a couple of saccharine gigs at the Great Escape in Brighton.
The bands sound is derivative of late 60’s and 70’s psychedelia and folk-rock in the vein of the Velvet Underground, Fairport Convention, Neil Young and contemporary bands such as Dead Meadow, Califone, Tinariwen & Earth. DIM=SUM translated into English nebulously means “point of the heart”; the bands ideology reflects community, experimentation, renewal, the gathering of friends, spirituality and intuition.
DIM=SUM’s forthcoming debut album will be presented as a conventional 40 minute album for media play as well as an expanded double album with groping versions of the 7 imaginative tracks. The lyrics of the songs are multifarious, enduring topics such as spiritual exile, rejuvenation as well as strong northern themes such as the woes of commercial fishing, farming, long distance relationships and the shared struggle to reconnect with nature.
Aimed at festival enthusiasts, DJ’s, music lovers, bloggers, vinyl devotees, college radio listeners & their peers, DIM=SUM is already planning their sophomore album and touring up and down the West Coast.
